Free Response...

Explore one of the following concepts in a written response: fate, ambition, or guilt.

When composing your analytical response, define the concept in your own words, and then write freely about what first comes to mind when you hear the word (think about what associations you have with the word, personal experiences, etc).

Responses are expected to be written as a thought provoking, and respectful, paragraph.

  1. Fate is your destiny, what will happen next in your life, it is inescapable. Fate is a concept that come up in many plays, myths, and also in life as well. In Antigone it was Oedipus's fate to marry his mom and kill his dad, even though he ran from his fate the event still occurred. Another example would be like that of missing your train to work and then meeting the love of your life on the next train, that would be fate. When i think of fate i think of Love like in Romeo and Juliet and also Death like that of Oedipus, even though fate can go either way it is generally good. It teaches us to just go with the flow and let what is bound to happen, happen.

  2. Ambition can be described as one’s desire to achieve something with motivation and determination. When I think of the word ambition, my future immediately comes into mind. I start to wonder where I will apply to college, where I’ll go, and what I’ll do once I graduate. In the past, my family members, friends and teachers have called me ambitious, and some have even told me that I am too ambitious. In response to these remarks, I disagree and explain that in my eyes one can never be too ambitious. Each individual can push him or herself to a certain extent and strive for success, and I see nothing wrong with wanting to achieve that best that you can in life. These goals cannot be accomplished however without ambition and determination. Because I consider ambition and desire for success to go hand in hand with one another, I often push myself to become more ambitious. While some people may joke and tease that I put too much time and effort into my work (like many say I do with these blogs), I don’t find much humor in it. In the future I hope to achieve my goal of working with children in a field like teaching or psychology, and unless I push myself to study and improve as a student, these goals will not be attained. Although schoolwork and extracurricular activities can become monotonous and boring after a while, I like to remind myself and others of the importance of ambition, for I truly believe it is ultimately the key to success. ☺

  3. 1. Fate: the predetermined events that were meant to happen to someone.
an experience i had with fate was on 9/11. my father was to meet a client at the world trade center. when he was about half way out of the door when my brother fell down the stairs and broke his leg. if that hadn't happened he would have left but he was fated not to die that day.
    2. Ambition: the desire to achieve one's goal.
Even now i have an ambition. An ambition to go to a college of my choice and become as successful as i hope to be.
    3. Guilt: the emotion to regret on one's misdoings.
i haven't felt guilt in some time. Not that i haven't done any misdoings but the fact that i can use my words to get out of feeling guilt with my lies and my strategy of putting the blame on others. it is because of this that i do not regret my wrongdoings.

  4. Fate is a person's destiny. Fate is the events that will occur in a person's life, these events are predetermined. The story of Oedipus teaches people that fate is inescapable. It is impossible to change your fate because it is predetermined. Oedipus learns that his fate is to kill his father and marry his mother. He tries to avoid his fate by leaving his city and going to Thebes. But since he was adopted, he kills his real father and marries his mother unknowingly. Since it is impossible to escape fate, Oedipus' fate was to challenge his fate. If everyone's fate is predestined, then all men are not created equal.

    Ambition Blog Response

I believe ambition to be defined as someone’s drive to pursue, and achieve something. Having ambition is necessary to chase after dreams, and reach difficult goals. This being said, I highly respect people that I feel are ambitious and have not lost their determination even in difficult circumstances, when their aspiration seemed almost unattainable. An example of a time I was ambitious in my own life was when I was working on a law brief, in the hopes that mine would be one of the few chosen by Mrs. Garner to be submitted to a competition. Because I had a lot of ambition and desired to come out on top, I spent countless hours working on the brief in order to prefect it. Due to the lack of time given, the night before we were required to hand it in, I forced myself to stay up until 3:45 finishing the brief and making sure that every argument was exceedingly convincing and supported by proof. A few days later, Mrs. Garner announced the names of the people that had written the brief’s she had been chosen and mine was one of them! I was ecstatic, and am proud of myself for the amount of drive I had that night in order to finish. This shows, that those who are ambitious and are willing to do whatever it takes, often times are more successful than those who choose not to be motivated.

  6. FATE
I feel fate is your destiny it makes all the decisions for your future. Wether it be what college you get into, what job your going to pursue and even if you are going to get married and if yes who you will marry. It's the decision maker for everybody's future. For example it was fate for me to have Mrs. Maricevic for english both years 9th and 10th grade. I feel that it was fate because i feel that if i didn't have her as a teacher i wouldn't be the same english student as i am right now writing this amazing blog for you Mrs. Maricevic. This is why i feel that fate is everybody future and how things are going to turn out in everybody's future.

  7. Ambition is ones motivation and ability to push them selves. I believe that motivation is very important for one to have. Ambition is the key to being successful. I greatly respect those that are full of ambition and stride to be like them. In order to get all of my work done for school I need to have ambition so push me to do it even though I really don’t want to. Also, over the winter I became lazy and when it came time to work out for the summer I need to be very ambitious. I needed to be able to push myself everyday to go running. If I didn’t have that ambition then I would never get myself off of the couch. Ambition allows for people to stride and get all their work done successfully.

  8. Guilt

The concept of guilt can be defined as the feeling of remorse for a moral offence or knowledge of a wrong doing that you have commited. I believe that guilt is an important emotion one must be able to grow and mature into a person. Once someone recognizes the wrong doings their guilt encourages them to correct their actions. As mother’s day is approaching I am beginning to reminise on preceding weekends in which I had spent my time out with friends opposed to bonding with my parents. The guilt has escalated since last mother’s day and is provoking me to change my way of mind. Now I feel as if I should spend the following weekends with them in order to start repairing my guilt. Also I will make a special effort this coming weekend with my mother to amend the moral wrongs throughout the year due to the my self blame and the feeling of guilt.

  9. Living Without Regrets: Fate Blog Response

Fate can be defined as the supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events. To believe in fate, one must believe or accept that he/she has no idea what the future holds, but someone, or something, somewhere, does. If one believes that the universe is guided by some unseen force with some form of an ultimate plan, whatever that may be, he/she accepts that the plan cannot be understood; we, being only human, have no influence in determining our futures. Others are convinced our lives are what we make of them, that one must work towards the great plan that is instore for him/her. Raised as a Catholic, I am a firm believer in fate. I often wonder if I would be able to move forward each day with optimism and hope if I didn’t have trust in fate, which is also why I wonder how those who do not have spiritual beliefs remain true to themselves. My life has consisted of numerous challenges, especially in this past year. Without believing that this was in my written future, without believing that I was forced to experience tragedies most never even think twice about, at such a young age, I don’t know if I would have been able to continue moving forward in the same stride I always had. I am not saying I believe humans do not have the power of choice, that they cannot change their lives in both positive and negative ways, but I believe that no matter what course one’s life takes, it was mean’t to be.

  11. Fate means everything is preordained. It is your destiny and you don’t have control over it. Whenever I hear the word fate I think of the story Oedipus. No matter how much he went out of his way to avoid his destiny, he ended up fulfilling it anyway. This famous work of literature displays that fate is unalterable. Fate is a controversial topic whereas some agree with it and others disagree. Based on my personal experiences I believe that our actions are responsible for our fate.

  12. Ambition, the strength to keep moving forward and be motivated by the satisfaction of knowing you are zealous to reach your goal. People create their own ambitions with their minds and thoughts, a simple thought of ‘I want to run a mile without stopping’ will cause them put their nose to the grindstone and work to achieve their objective. Then there are larger scaled goals such as a person aspiring to become President or a CEO of a company and will still work hard to become what they yearn to be. Ambitions and determination come in all shapes and sizes which associates to the amount of effort required to obtain such aim. For example personally at the moment I am driven by the ambition to travel to California this summer and attend a Pre- College program where I have been accepted into an acting department. However to be able to go I must keep up my grades and have over 50 hours of outside theatre programs by the end of the year. I work hard in everything I do because this motivation has had such an effect on me that I am willing to push myself to limits I never knew I even had. Either long nights at the community theatre center or putting extra effort into my studies or projects just so that I never even have the possibility of losing this opportunity. I know what I want to do with my life, this is my first step in the direction I wish to go, and I am driven now more than ever before in my life to reach such a point.

  13. I believe that ambition defines a person, not only their interests but they're categorization in life. Everyone has ambition, all for different purposes and used to achieve goals that may or may not test our boundaries and limits. Ambition is described as the drive and motivation to effectively complete a goal set out by a person. I believe this but I also believe that it is the drive, the eagerness, the thing that separates humans from animals. Ever since the humans came along we had ambition, ambition to make fire or the first wheel.......etc I'm rambling on to much :( Anyway no matter what your motivation is or ambition it's what makes people exceed their expectations by a long shot. My ambition is to get a job somewhere in the scientific field and it will happen. The gear shit to my car, the cream to my coffee, what ever cheesy line you would like to use this is my drive to my life. That's ambition Elion style!! .........lol jk that was lame haha :)
