The heart of Antigone is a moral dilemma (a problem where there is no good solution). The dilemma in the play requires a difficult choice between law and conscience, law and religious beliefs and law and loyalty to a friend or family member. Please write three or four sentences describing a moral dilemma that you have created on your own. Please only describe the moral dilemma. Do not try to solve the dilemma. Responses should be thoughtful and respectful!!

Moral dilemmas are arguably the most complicated predicaments to be in because of the difficult choices that are required, and that oftentimes leaving a person unable to determine what the right solution is. An example of a moral dilemma would be deciding whether or not to turn in your best friend that you know was responsible for the murder of a man. This internal issue brings up the question, is loyalty to a friend more important than the law, making the choice even trickier?

a very difficult and heart wrenching moral dilemma would be to chose between family members. if you were on a sinking ship and could only save one person in your family you have to chose who you love or want to live the most. a decision i would not wish upon anyone. but the tides of fate can lead you in that very predicament...(stay away from sinking ships)
ReplyDeleteAn additional example of a moral dilemma that would be extremely difficult and conflicting to deal with is choosing whether or not to call the cops at a party where your best friend is passed out. By calling the police you could risk getting in trouble for drinking underage and losing all of your friends, but by not calling the cops you could potentially lose your best friend. While we may all think we know the right answer or solution to the problem, how would we react in the moment?
ReplyDeleteThere are several different moral dilemmas that people experience in their lives. Moral dilemmas require people to make difficult decisions in a limited amount of time. I think the choice between law and conscience is very difficult and people can encounter this choice in many different situations. If someone was harming your friend who defend them because you think it's right or not because it could be against the law.
ReplyDeleteA moral dilemma can be a huge stress over someone’s life because they do not have an obvious or clear answer provided. Another complicated situation that requires difficult decison making would be if one of your family members had stolen from a department store, you can tell the police and do the right thing. But would you want to put your family in danger in place of the law?
ReplyDeleteThrough life, humans find themselves in multiple situations in which they are forced to deal with a moral dilemma. For example, students may be faced with a moral dilemma as to whether or not they should cheat on a test. Although they know it's wrong, getting that good grade is also very important.
ReplyDeleteMoral dilemmas.... Such a hassle to deal with in life, yet is a constant factor in which people are put in the middle of and are faced with difficult decisions. I have been put in the middle of such a predicament , but I like when my brother and I do the same thing to my parents where we ask "Who do you love more?" My parents give us a look but they come out with an answer that is always to be predicted as "I love you both equally." Although at times we feel that isn't true we cant pry for more -_- Moral Dilemmas can also come in the shape of having ti choose between your boyfriend/girlfriend and a best friend. That is a common problem in most peoples lives and can cause quite a debacle. But in the end it is what you think is best for you, or another.
ReplyDeleteA moral dilemma, such a tragic thing people have to suffer through just to come out with a solution. Often time’s people have to make smaller choices like relations between two arguing friends or to acknowledge a misdeed. Or larger scale such as your belief in what is moral and what you have been taught and told is moral. The struggle and toil going through a person’s mind could be so frustrating it could result in choosing negative effects for them and the people around them. Everything that matters revolves around that final choice the person makes when it comes to these certain types of situations.

Moral dilemmas are defined as situations in which possible courses of action breach some otherwise binding moral principle; each choice presenting equally undesirable alternatives. Thankfully, most of us do not come across dire situations that present a moral dilemma, but it is interesting to consider one’s potential reaction to such a situation. When faced with instantaneous decisions, one’s true character is revealed; therefore such exercises provide one with insight on who he or she truly is. An example of a moral dilemma would be to kill one for the masses, if the death of one person could save the life of hundreds, or even millions, would you be able to pull the trigger?
ReplyDeleteThere are many moral dilemmas that humans deal with in every day life. For example if your friend wants to go someone where and they want you to cover for them so they don't get in trouble. You really want to help your friend out and you don't want them to be mad at you but you don't like lying and risking getting caught. Do you help your friend or tell the truth?

Moral dilemmas are things that people experience in their lives. The dilemma between law and loyalty to friend is a very hard thing to come about in your life. Because there might be a situation in your friendship that you might have to turn your friend in because you know its the right thing to even though it might ruin you friendship you will know that you did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteMoral dillemas are a pain. we all have to deal with them I've had some moral dilemas before. For example I would want to go to this party with all my friends or hang out with a girl and I'd always choose the girl ;) Another kind of moral dillema would be choosing fun over home work.
ReplyDeletea moral dilemma is a problem brought upon a person to cause controversy and make one make difficult decision. for example if a person was to choose the life of a loved one over him self that would be a moral dilemma.
ReplyDeleteMoral dilemmas show up many times in stories, myths, and even poetry. All sorts of dilemmas can show up, most often the one where you must choose your life or your friends or some whack situation like that in a movie or a TV drama. Everyone has one at some point in their life and you just have to get it over with. Some are like what Brian talked about, if your friend does something wrong would you tell on them and risk your friendship or would you do the right thing? for these kind of things we usually turn to parents, teachers or someone you can trust. But you should always do the right thing without question. P.S. thats why i did this blog so i could feel goo about my self and make my grade better! sorry Cev for never doing it.
