Think of a summer moment or image from your own that had a similar dominant impression as Dybek's piece. Begin this piece with "In summer...."
Folks.... make sure that you respond to questions 2 and 3 of the Dominant Impressions sheet. As always, when posting a blog, be RESPECTUFL.
In the summer i was in South Carolina with a few of my friends and we went across a lake to go jump off of a cliff into the water. I distinctly remember climbing up to the top of the rock and then getting cold feet once i looked out over the 25+ foot drop. Then i saw my friend run as fast as he could off the edge of the rock and I followed shortly after, scared as anything but having fun flying through the air. The whole mood of that day from there after was trying new things. About an hour later we went to this rope swing that we knew was around the back of the island we were on. It shot you (if you could hold on that long) over 50 feet out over the water. I had never done something like that before and it was one of the best days of my life. I think the dominant impression of the moment was trying new things and having fun.

ReplyDeleteIn summer, carefree and full of life, we would walk from place to place, although really having nowhere we needed to be. Spending countless hours outside in the open air, we would talk about anything and everything that came to our minds. Some nights, we would sleep outside and in the morning, yell to see if the boys down the street could hear us. Most often, our voices could not be heard, like soft whispers across a vast distance, but nevertheless we would yell and yell until we gave up or until they finally answered, their calls traveling to our ears on the warm summer breeze.
ReplyDeleteIn summer, filled with innocence and curiosity. I, a small child, would wander around searching for new ways to spend my time. Though usually spent relaxing in the sunshine, exploring my backyard or playing games with my siblings, I came up with the brilliant idea to build a lemonade stand. My mom mixed the lemonade, while I set up a sign with the crooked, broken writing of a first grader. Many people came and left with a smile on their faces. And with their smiles and tokens of appreciation, I was filled with joy. The spread of happiness...
ReplyDeleteIn summer, with peaceful sounds of summer the crickets and summer breeze at night. I love when me and my friends get together and go outside late at night to play manhunt. It just feels right when it is in the summer because you feel like a free person at night during the summer when you don't have to worry about school work getting done stressing over test and essay for your important classes. sometimes before we play were at a friends house that is having a BBQ and when your done eating and u start to play u still smell that nice burger that was cooked only an hour ago. It just feels right when me and my friends do this at night during the summer time.

In summer, the hot blistering sun matched by the occasional cool breeze. the honking of the cars. it seems like the most unlikely place for a movie. My movie. a simple little scene without any dialogue. "No Dialogue" they chanted "who would ever make a movie without any dialogue." i would make it anyway. For i knew that this was going to be one of the best movies ever made when the sound of the camera reeled and the clip marker snapped the infamous words escaping from my mouth "Lights, Camera, Action!" i knew that this was going to be a movie worth remembering.
ReplyDeleteIn the summer, I am always relaxed and carefree. Summer is filled with innocence which reminds me of my childhood . Almost every year I travel to India in the summer and meet my relatives and friends. I played sports with my friends from the morning to night. It felt like I had so much freedom because I could go anywhere without needing to drive. All the happiness ended when summer was over and I had to go back to school. Those childhood memories in India will always be the best experiences of my life.
ReplyDeleteIn summer, no stress and freedom. My family would go to the jersey shore, where the beach is the best place to go to relax and bake in the sun. So many possibilities to do at the beach, but our favorite thing to do was bury our older cousins in the sand. We begged and begged and begged until they would let us, once they agreed we would all jump up and down cheering. The first step was to dig a huge whole, or as we use to say "dig to China"! Once we were done our cousin would jump in and we would push the warm sand heated form the scolding hot sun, back into the whole, making sure they were completely covered. They lasted about two minutes and then they would get right back up and we would all run down to the water, pushing each other and splashing the cool salt water at each other. Finally, we would all watch the beautiful colors of the sunset across the sky.

In summer, peaceful and warm air, we would take a walk back to the cabin screaming "21A" representing our cabin's spirit. Our bursts of energy softened to a whisper to keep out of trouble. We would converse about our day together and plans for the next every night enjoying each summer day as if it would be our last full of memories and laughter. Often our deep conversation at times were forced to be whispered while others thus we crept outside for the summer scent. Awake at all hours reminiscing and bonding for hours and hours sitting outside letting the gentle breeze hit our cheeks. These memories will not be forgotten from the summer nights.

ReplyDeleteIn summer, carefree and independent, sporting sun soaked skin and ragged jean shorts, we’d drive for what seemed like endless hours along coasts of populated beaches to the soundtrack of Rhythms del Mundo, Cuba Edition, muffled by briny waves. Work, no longer implying the need to study, consisted of card games and Marco-Polo interrupted occasionally by the children of country-club-goers who desired nothing more than to complete a headstand in four-foot deep water. The “dress code” of night duplicated the attire of day, forces of humidity defeated those attempting to contain locks of curls, and makeup became foreign. Our appetites were satisfied by charcoal cheeseburgers and chilled iced tea, preferable Lipton’s raspberry, on the days that we were stripped down to sequined bathing suits and covered in water droplets – our only protection being SPF six. As days grew longer, we became closer; no secret too personal and no act too scandalous. We had learned each other’s pet peeves, best hours of day, and sense of humor. Staying up until sunlight hit our faces once again became routine, as well as sleeping in until noon on days where rides to the beach were unavailable. A day never passed where we hadn’t seen each other. That summer, there was no distance between us; all we ever were was a phone call away, and that is as far as we ever will be.
ReplyDeleteIn summer we were home- my best friends and I, reunited at last. Without studying, stress and responsibility, we were free. The beautiful greens and rich smell of the towering pines surrounded us as we walked. With no purpose or meaning, we walked. The vibrant rays of light and brutal heat from the summer’s day shown down on us, but even that could not stop us. As we walked, we revived our past memories. We laughed and cried, dreading the events of the following day. Then, as the light of day began to fade from our view, the tasty and luscious aromas of the dining hall’s final meal captivated our senses. The deep-fried chicken fingers called out like a siren in the night, and the sweet smells of the decadent ice cream buffet sent our taste buds soaring. Despite the scrumptious meal that awaited us, the joyful ambiance of the morning’s glory had died, only to be replaced with a silent anxiety that reinforced the reality of the upcoming departure. As the morning approached, the camp stood lifeless and still. Clouds darkened the sky, and sadness prevailed. As we took our final walk, tears flowed uncontrollably from our eyes, leaving a trail of salt-filled tears streaming down our faces. In summer, summer went by too quickly.
ReplyDeletein the summer i remeber the feelings of being free, the sweet smell of girls perfumes the feeling of being free not a care in the world, simply amazing. as me and my friends venture deeper into the summer night we head to a party the feelings of girls dancen taste of burning vodka the music pulsing through our bodies, like nothing could stop us,the fun would never end and we will never grow up.Then i realize im lieing to myself the night ends the parties over and now we grew up and everything changed. my friends disapeared everyone doing their own thing and never seeing each other ever again, now im here at harrison and i miss the sweet feeling of home and the freedom i had when everyone was together like one big family.
ReplyDeleteIn summer, the feeling of being free and happy. I always went to my camp and always talking with my friends about the craziest things and just having fun. We always had swimming races and laughing it off whenever one of us makes a mistake at something. I always love when my group went to the archery range there, since I'm actually pretty good at it and it tends to help me concentrate. It always feels like I'm in the right place, like I belong there, and I almost never want to leave. now that I work there, I always have this feeling of accomplishment, but sometimes I do miss it when I was a camper.
ReplyDeleteIn the summer, feeling rejuvenated because of the ending school year. I wandered my town with friends, explored new places of my town and did some pretty fun and bad-ass things. I went to Florida and spent a wondrous week with my family from down their, absorbed the sun, and taught my uncles how to play Wii. I went to parties and spent a lot of time walking around White Plains with friends. Then going to my house in Puerto Rico, Ponce. And visited family I have not seen since I was 2. Ending the summer with soccer and tryouts. A phenomenal summer one might say :)
